Weekend Homework

I know those words make some of you cringe. Homework isn’t fun, especially on the weekend!

Relax, I’m the one assigning homework today and it’s meant to bring a shimmer of joy to you and your home!

Honestly, it’s silly how much this homework makes me smile.

Now don’t freak out – there are three parts to your homework. I promise it’s worth it.

1. Take a drive or a walk. Preferably with someone you’re fond of. My latest jaunt was with my daughter after her brother’s soccer game. The boys rode home together and we took a detour. Just a small one, down a little road that wasn’t very busy and we picked wild flowers. Weeds some might say. Boo to them. I keep scissors in my car for times like this. We grabbed showy flowers and promising buds by the fistful. Be sure to get the buds that haven’t done their business yet. Watching them open at home is the best part. We shook off ants and tiny spiders and we chatted. I hope these are the moments she will remember later.
2. Hunt for a bud vase. Look in your cabinets and closets. Maybe go thrifting or garage salein’ if you have time. I snatched these great little jars at a vintage market. They are old tobacco jars and supposedly the dots on the bottom have to do with how strong the tobacco was. I need to do more research, but fun little jars like this make the best vases. I got them for a buck each. If you look hard enough you have something cool laying around your house that will fit the bill.
3. Put it all together. You don’t have to be an expert at flower arranging. Just cut down your stems and start sticking your finds together. I like a variety of heights and textures in my mini arrangements. For added flair put a little something sticking out of your vase, like this hymn card I got from Magnolia Market. You could use a picture or a memory verse card, whatever makes it your own. Now scatter wildflowers all over. I put mine in my kitchen window, on little shelves, as a centerpiece and even in the bathroom. If you are anything like me you’ll be hooked. It will be hard for you to buy store bought flowers again.

The best news is there is no grade on this homework! See, that wasn’t so hard! You can’t go wrong when you take a few minutes to spend time with someone special doing something that makes your home extra joyful for those you love!
