Casserole server missing it’s container gets fresh makeover into a serving tray!
I really could start 50% of my blog posts the same way…I found this ___________ at a garage sale for $1. I can’t decide if I’m really cheap or lucky, lol! I can find some goodies for a dollar, like these two casserole servers that were missing their dish. Don’t they scream potential?
If you happen to be spring cleaning your kitchen and find something like this or stumble on one at a thrift store they are SO SIMPLE to make over! All I did was clean them up and cut some wood to fit (well, my husband actually cut the wood because he was being sweet and helping me out!) Depending on your hardware store they might even cut the wood for you!
I used some thin wood I had leftover from another project, cut and sanded down. Then my sweet friend showed me how to condition the wood for food safety. You can get a lesson on how to care for cutting boards here if you need one!
I like this sleek look, it adds a modern touch, especially for the bamboo style tray.
You could easily retro fit a cutting board you have on hand or find at a thrift store or add glass if you want a more butcher block look. The things you can do with this little beauty are endless!!
You could: Style a coffee table, round up perfume bottles and bathroom toiletries, serve a wine & cheese tray, make a pretty kitchen island centerpiece, make a dining room table centerpiece, actually put a casserole in the base or on top of the wood, design a pretty beverage station, declutter your desk, have a night table station, wrangle any countertop mess you have and I am sure more…do you have other ideas I overlooked for a good tray? Let me know in the comments.
This would look good with a piece of smoked glass. You lucked out on this one!! Good find:)
wow – yes it would. I love when y’all share ideas!!! that would be so pretty!
These are beautiful! Great idea. Being a dog lover, I thought what if you had a large pet food or water dish…it might just fit right into a round casserole server. Fido Fancy!
I am all about making your pet area look awesome and that would be so cute, I am gonna keep my eyes peeled for one!
Mount it on the wall with a mirror.
what a great idea!!!
I will have to be on the lookout these are gorgeous serving trays and thank you for sharing
They are a great thrift store or garage sale item to hunt for, happy hunting!
VERY cool, Kim! I’ll think twice next time I see one at a thrift store!
scoop one up, they are so versatile!
Did you just use tiny screws to attach the wood? I LOVE this idea! I have a few of these servers and have always wondered just what to do with them, since the glass dishes are hard to find to fit them
I actually haven’t attached the wood, I wanted to be able to remove it, but I would likely use an all purpose glue if I wanted to secure the wood. I thought it would be easier to clean if you could remove the wood insert!
I Love this idea! I seem them often at thrift stores.I just couldn’t think what I could do with them…now I do.Thank you for sharing.
yes – hope you find one soon!
Wonderful idea! I will definitely look for one of these when thrifting.
you will be surprised how much you see them now!
I also have one of these trays..I use it in my kitchen and i put my everyday glasses on it..I love my
Wow, I have had one of these sitting around for a while (waiting for inspiration). Thanks for the inspiration, I will be making a tray soon. ♥️
Makes me want to hit thrift stores and flea markets just to find some of these. What a great idea. Please keep sharing your talents with your followers! Love this.
I promise you will find them! I see em all the time! Happy hunting
I love this! I did something similar with a round casserole frame and I chalk painted the frame and the wood bottom. It was a perfect little tray to carry glasses of iced tea to our patio!
Love your blog!
thank you Dana – they are so fun I am glad you got to make and use one!!! Love the idea of a round one
I used one to hold a set of antique books on my shelf. Love it!
I adore that look!
I’ve cut a piece of wood and did mosaic on it with the words Bon Appetit and flowers and sealed it to be used as serving platter.
I painted and distressed one to hold a set of books I painted.
What are dimensions of wood? Trying to do same.
It all depends on the size of the holder you find Anita – you will have to measure yours and cut accordingly!
