It’s a real thing.
This house had none. It was overgrown and in major disarray. Especially to two people who owned a landscape construction company. Honestly the yard didn’t scare us too much. It was the one thing we knew we could fix. The rest of the house was a little more intimidating.
This house is nestled on about 1.5 acres taking up 8 city lots. It is less than a mile from downtown. We hit the jackpot on lot size I would say.
I love how our house sits back off the road. The driveway runs all the way through front to back, so you can enter and exit from different streets. It’s good for little bikes and scooters.
The mature trees gently shade the front yard and even though we lost one big one, I still love the age these trees lend to the house.
We have two Pecan trees in the front and one out back that produce buckets of pecans each Fall. It’s a battle: man vs. squirrel to see who gets them first.
My favorite tree in the yard is a mangled, wirey haired Bodark Tree (above right), better known as a Horse Apple Tree. I gives us these huge lumpy green apples that are not edible, but I love to look at them.
The very best thing we have at our house is a giant tree swing. It is loved by every child that comes over. Swooshing through the breeze over people’s head is a magnificent feeling. It’s the simplest things.
We kept the original front door along with the brass door knocker, engraved with Butler on it. They were the original builders and owners of this home.
On the big green lawn my kids play baseball with their daddy.
It’s hard for me to even express how grateful I am for this big piece of Earth that my family calls home. There are to many joyful things about this yard to mention.
I hope you’ve enjoyed it too! You can check out the rest of the house here.
I’d appreciate it if you would share or pin this if you think other’s might like it too!
