If you are anything like me, and I think you are or you wouldn’t be looking at this page, I am as curious as they come about creeping through someone else’s world. You know when you go to a new friend’s house and you want to soak up everything about their space without looking like a total stalker. It’s hard to be casual when you want to be nosey! It seems every good lifestyle/home décor blogger opens their home to the masses. Letting us take long lasting gulps of the precious decorating inspiration they have to offer. Here is my feeble attempt to welcome you into my home.
It’s important to know I never have, and can’t imagine I ever will, decorate my home for anyone else but my family and myself. We like what we like and we go with it. We surround ourselves with things that mean something to us, gathered over time that speak to our hearts. It’s the premise of Hunt & Host…we hunt for amazing things to place in our home and lives…then host each other alongside guests in our space. I believe decorating should be a journey, an evolution of sorts and that it should speak loud and clear about who you are.
Also important to know…this house went through MAJOR renovations. All without the help of professional architects or designers. My husband has a degree in Landscape Architecture, so we have a slight edge on the outdoor part. Otherwise, we are just regular people who took a leap of faith that this unloved pile of bricks would turn into a warm and inviting home that we would love.
We contracted the whole process ourselves. It was fun, tearful, overwhelming, empowering, scary, dirty, delightful and rewarding. As you walk through our doors my hope is that you will be inspired to be who you are and run with it. Take on a challenge with confidence. Love your home and it will love you back.
My husband and I adore old homes. We knew long ago that a renovation was in our future, it was just a matter of when and where. You can read a bit about how we found our house here.
