This year (2016) I felt a strong call to step up the task of hiding God’s word in my heart. And helping my family do the same.
Anyone who knows me in person knows my memory is HORRIBLE! It’s a serious problem, my mom and I are similar in this regard and we continually make jokes about our lack of retention.
But the truth is, how are you going to follow God if you don’t know Him AND His word?
You can’t follow rules you don’t know.
You can’t be lifted and encouraged by words you don’t hear.
You can’t be refined and convicted by words you don’t meditate on.
You can’t comprehend God’s love for you if you don’t read and know the love letter He wrote for you.
When you chose to give your heart to the Lord and go hard after Him, you will get thirsty for His truth.
But seriously…the Bible is a BIG book!!! It overwhelms me. There are over 31,000 verses in the Bible!!! That’s A LOT of memorizing!
This year I chose to follow the saying:
When eating an elephant take one bite at a time. – Creighton Abrams
So I made memory verse cards for our family. One new verse a month that I felt was important for us to know. One verse a month isn’t to hard. Plus, I added one verse a quarter that is a little longer. Guess what…they add up. By Christmas we will know 16 verses! If we continue till my daughter goes to college I will send her away with 112 verses in her heart! If we keep it up till our youngest leaves the nest he will head out with a heart full of close to 200 verses!
See how it adds up.
Since all of you that follow along faithfully are like extended family I wanted to include you in our mission. Starting with your own set of memory verse cards. I will display the monthly verse on the blog (you’ll see it pop up in the bottom right hand corner of your screen), but only the friends that subscribe to my e-mail list will get the printable verse cards. I will also send out seasonal verse cards to up your memory game! If you haven’t subscribed to the e-mail list yet, I encourage you to. You can do so in the side bar form. If you already subscribe these printables have already been sent – double check your inbox! You can even make your own cards if you want…whatever you do to learn God’s word is awesome.
Simply print the files provided, on the front and back of fun colored paper (I prefer cardstock), plain white or whatever floats your boat. Next cut the page into 8 equal cards. You can display these in a multitude of ways, I have shown you a few ways we use them around our house. Sometimes I laminate them, often I hole punch them and put them on a ring, some get taped to mirrors, we give them as gifts and some just lay around. Put them where you are forced to review them daily. Repetition works. Talk to your kids in the car about them, challenge your friends or husband to recite this month’s verse, challenge yourself to say it out loud.
You will soon find yourself using scripture in your prayer, in your talk and in your thoughts…effortlessly. You’ll have the best bank of advice to fall back on in any situation you face. You’ll share the gospel.
And ultimately THAT is what we are called to do…but we have to know it to share it!
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Mark 16:15

I love this!!! I am on board 100% for myself as well as my team. Thanks so much. I love the idea of keeping them in multiple places and agree that repetition is key. Love you. Thank you for sharing your heart so transparently – it is a blessing to many! ❤️

I love this idea! Thank you so much! What a blessing is was to read this plan this morning, as I have been searching out ideas of how to memorize the Word that doesn’t take a long time.

I love that this can be on the go, in the car, wherever!
Mom says
What do you mean, my memory is horrible!?!?
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Did you forget? 🙂

Thank you so much, this is such a wonderful idea! Since we read the KJV, I won’t be able to use the printable, but will print my own!

It is hard with so many verions available, but glad the idea works for you. These are NIV in case anyone wondered!

I love this idea and Thank you. I have done this in the past to remember protocols at work. I read a book years ago by a Brother Capps in which he had 4 categories of verses and each was a page long. I typed and printed them. Each morning I would say them out loud. Before long I knew the verses. Thank you again.

That’s a great idea. It’s repetition or nothing for me! I’m so glad you like these!

A friend and were just talking the other day about there may come a time when our bibles are taken away and the only bible we will have is the one we hid in our hearts. Great encouragement.

It seems impossible, but unfortunately that could happen! Have you read The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom? It will really make you want to hide God’s word where no one can take it!

I made several of these scripture cards and tucked them into the Christmas gifts for my girlfriends. They loved them! I have more, and will be making more, to give to total strangers who look like they need some inspiration. Thank you!

yay – I love giving these away, such a fun thing to have handy for someone who needs a light! Merry Christmas
