Easy Valentine Decor Idea
Yes, it says hearts with an s. I have more than one. I have 5. Five hearts God put under my watchful eye, in my loving heart and gave me the privilege of caring for. Those hearts belong to my husband Todd, my daughter Mae, my sons Hank and Sadler and my heart. Maybe it is really one heart in five pieces. Anyway you look at it I am not whole without each part.
I usually glide right past Valentine’s Day, we rarely make a big deal of it around our house. I consider it one of those overrated holidays. This year I feel a little different. Not in the run out and buy chocolates and mushy love cards kind of way…Todd and I have a no gift deal this year. (BTW -Please stick to it). My heart just fills full. Overflowing even. I think it is because I see God everywhere. In situations that should be bad, in unexpected gifts, in promises for the future, in my husband more and more, in my crazy kids. Without a doubt He has been there all along. I just see and feel His presence all around me right now…maybe cause lately I’m looking harder for him.
This little craft for my mantle just came to me as a perfect summation of our family. I found these cute little candleholders for ten cents each at a yard sale, right on budget.
Before
You can find them at any thrift store, wood or even glass. The pinecones were picked up on a road trip (I am currently in love with pinecones in case you were wondering) for free. They are perfectly imperfect, much like my gang. Each kid picked their own. The hearts were made and printed on my computer, one for each person embellished with their initial. I simply chalk painted and waxed the candles sticks. Here are the before and after pics, plus a glimpse of what waxing does.It really finishes off a painting project and makes it look rich, less homemade.

The fun heart painting in the background was painted by my daughter. Somehow each piece reflects the personality of who it represents. At least it does in my eyes. My little hearts in a row.
So…there will still be nothing fancy going on over at our place on the 14th, no roses or candlelight dinners. Just a few candlesticks and pinecones. But all my heart will be together and that is just enough. Here is another easy and inexpensive DIY that is perfect for Valentine’s Day.

I love your mantle decor. It definitely shows the love you have for your family. A gift from God.
This year we moved and I watch our now 13 month old grandson. I wanted him involved, we venture out each month to the dollar store. (That way it doesn’t cost a fortune) For fall he went the one of everything low enough to reach route. For Christmas he was a little more choosy. Valentine’s Day was odd because he only picked 6 things, and he knew exactly where he wanted them to go. Let’s just say I’m happy it’s cool because we can’t turn on the ceiling fan, it’s covered with everything he chose. The light on the fan reflects the foil color. It’s like living in a disco.
