A while back I got a call from a friend saying there was a double rocker on her neighbor’s curb. She wondered if I wanted it. The answer is always yes.
I love that she thought of me 🙂
The rocker did need some work. The entire seat was rotted out. I forgot to take a picture before my handy husband re-seated it for me.
You can see the paint was dull and moldy. Not to inviting for porch sittin’, tea drinkin’ and story swapin’. We shorten our words a lot in the South.
Then, this summer I won a jar of Front Porch Paint while at the Haven Conference. I could pick any color from a mind boggling array of choices. It was all my brain could do to NOT pick another shade of gray, or cream or blah blah basic. It almost pained me, but the brave little voice inside said pick a bold color.
So I picked a deep, rich, bold plum color called Playful…
I have NEVER been a purple person. At the time I wasn’t sure what I would use it for, but I knew I was already pining for Fall. It was over 100° outside after all.
I figured if this paint was good for a no fade door it was good for a no fade rocker.
To prep the rocker I simply washed it down and scrubbed on it with a little cleaner to kill the mold, then let it dry completely.
I sanded the rough corners of the new seat and some other beat up spots.
It took a few coats to get a nice even coverage. I didn’t want to distress this piece so I was more diligent in full coverage than I normally am.
Once it was all freshened up I put it in the little patio off our master bedroom. It makes me smile every time I pass by. Bold colors aren’t for everyone and they aren’t for every space. Outside is a great place to experiment with a color palette that wouldn’t normally work in your home. You have a bit more freedom to change it up.
So what new bold colors are you wanting to try?

The purple is so unexpected and perfect! It looks great with the pumpkins…you might have to have a little orange with it all year. Love that view into the nook.
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Thanks Stacey! I know I am either going to have to stock up on orange or find it another color friend!

Debbie says
How lovely! When we remodeled our master bath I choose purple paint. I chose a dark shade which I offset with bright white trim and doors. It is just enough to personalize the room but not so much that it’s gwady. I love to add pops of unexpected colors in my home. The way the purple rocker adds a calming effect to the bright oranges is wonderful. You did a great job. It really welcomes you in to sit, talk and rock a while.
Kim at Hunt and Host says
thank you! I bet your bathroom is just perfect. I always think decorating should be personal! It feels so free and fun to do something crazy with paint. You can always change it later when you are tired of it!

You’ve ticked the 72 yr old once again with a gorgeous repurpose! As we mature we recognise the Lord as painted our world with all these lovely colors. ORANGE is my passion this last 2 decades. Fall is outrageous with color to wind up another year of color before winter. Bless you from another “Holly”
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Fall is my absolute favorite season, it sound like you get more color change than we do in my part of Texas, but I adore it just like you!
Debbie says
I am a purple kind of girl. I have the opposite problem with color…I tend to go overboard. I really have to hold myself back. But this little rocker makeover is the perfect soothing tone to go with the pops of orange. Keep showing me how to get it done tastefully! I love it!
Kim at Hunt and Host says
I understand the dilemma all to well, I often go overboard too!!! I have to keep myself in check, sometime color is just fun and if you like it that’s all that matters!
Judy says
How on earth did you find out about the Haven conference…. and are there similar ones???????????
Kim at Salvaged Living says
there are lots of blogging conferences! Haven is a great one, I’ve gone for years!
ColleenB.-Tx. says
What a great friend to have giving you a call like that.
Love that rocker, even the nice purple color.
Sometimes it’s best to step out of our comfort zone and do something bold and different.
Really6 gives it a nice pop of color for outdoors and goes well with your Fall décor you have set up and really makes your rocker stand out up against your wall.
Great Job
Kim at Salvaged Living says
thanks, it is nice to have friends like that!
Gwen@ Monroe says
Absolutely love this color. I admit I have to calm myself down with color because if I went with my likes,my house would look like a circus. This is just the prettiest color. Gotta find a place to use it.
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I feel ya! restraint is a tough one! but yes try this color, it is fabulous!
