Childhood Dollhouse DIY Makeover Final Reveal
EEEKKK! It’s finally here, the One Room Challenge reveal of my childhood dollhouse makeover. Over the last seven weeks I have joined other bloggers in transforming a room of their house and I for sure had the easiest, most fun project of all! You can see the rest of the AMAZING transformations here on the host blog Calling It Home! For my sweet little dollhouse, I think you will see it is a definite mix of what our house is, a few things I wish it were and some stuff that’s just plain fun! I hardly know where to start because I have loved this dollhouse DIY project so much, thank you all for following along with me. In case you miss it the dollhouse was originally gifted to me by my Neena (my maternal grandmother). She is still alive at age 93, but suffers from Alzheimers and no longer knows who I am, or my mom for that matter. It is such an incredibly sad disease, but working on the house has made me think of my Neena so much and remember the better days. She has always been so special to me and I am thankful for this heirloom gift she gave me so many years ago. Here is where we started:
I also want to thank minitures.com and DecoArt for sponsoring this makeover, they really gave me the tools to have a blast making this dollhouse alive again! If you are even a teeny tiny bit considering making a dollhouse like this for a family member DO IT! I promise they will love it, but you will enjoy it too. Now let’s start the tour in the living room! The new grey sofa set the tone for the room, casual and classic, I wanted everything to blur the lines between glam and rustic. I love this couch and would take a lifesize one in a heartbeat! (I will give you a source list at the bottom in case you want any of these items for your dollhouse) I will laso have links to the previous weeks, so you can see all the DIY ideas.
The rug, painted loveseat, pillows, painted dresser and hutch, candlesticks, drawer tray, faux tin tile, and antique shelf are all DIY from previous weeks. I got these cute books to decorate with and mixed in a few vintage book bundles.
How sweet is the kitty in the wicker chair? Looks just like our Ooba kitty…always asleep in our living room.
Of course I had to add a personal touch with our family photo and glass cloches are my fav!
Just a snip of dried Baby Breath is so cute for décor! Faux or real greenery adds life to any room, I prefer live, but my thumb does not.
Small pumpkins scattered about make it feel like Thanksgiving. I can’t wait to decorate the dollhouse in tune with the holidays!!!
The stairs got a fresh paint job. I contemplated painting numbers on the steps, but thought it might be too busy. I love that look! The back side of the stairs is perfect for a family chalkboard to do list, just like in our kitchen! I also opted to not glue down the stairs, so they could be removed for extra play room!
The kitchen is decked out with all new appliances, hardware painted for that rustic glam feel. I am loving the warm gold tones right now. All the miniature plates and glasses are so stinkin’ cute I can hardly stand it!!! Coffee anyone?
Of course we have to have a giant turkey in the works and Pumpkin Pie because my husband loves it!
Copper is so popular right now and it looks fabulous on the shelves, on the stove and even in the sink waiting to be washed! Now that’s a touch of reality for you…dishes in the sink. 😉
I love to have places to change out easily for each season so the chalkboard above the fridge is perfect for that, plus kids love to write on chalkboards, so I think future play pals will get a kick out of it! How amazing is this big red scale? I want a real one!
I hope I didn’t overload you with to many pictures and infused your dollhouse dreams with fun ideas! Here is a list of items and where I got them. If the item isn’t listed it was a DIY and I showed it in a previous post!
couch, wicker chair, book décor, chandelier, kitchen table and chairs, all plates and cups, scale, shelf brackets, kitchen appliances, kitty cats, faux greenery/succulent, canisters, turkey, pie.

Isn’t it a blast! I will have to go check it out, I am completely in love with teeny stuff now 🙂
I love it! You’ve shown SO much progress every week, and I was wondering what you would have left for the reveal… but dang all the accessories make it so good 🙂
Thanks Nicole, my mom said she didn’t see how it would come together lol. Glad it was still an impactful reveal!!!
Those little floating shelves with the black hardware – I cannot get over them!! Especially against the “tile” backsplash LOL The whole thing just looks so like so much to work on (and to play with!)

Kim – I am dying over this reveal! What a special treasure to have after all these years and I love how you updated it. All the details = all the feels!

This is so cute, I love all the details you added! I have a dollhouse that I found at Goodwill that I’m planning to makeover. I’m so excited!
Tania
I would love to find on at Goodwill, when I finish this one I may be on the hunt for another, so much fun’!
I’ve already started! It’s gotten some much needed repairs, a new exterior paint job and a new sandpaper roof! I’ll begin posting about it after the new year. I wonder, would you be willing to share your contact name for Miniatures.com? I’d love to work with them for some parts of my dollhouse! If you’d be willing to share that information you can email me at Pelletier4003{at}charter{dot}net.
Thanks!
Tania
Yay Tania, I can’t wait to see what you do! I will pass your info to my contact for sure! Merry Christmas!
Best ORC project EVER!!!!!
you are so sweet 🙂
Wow! Big girls and little girls love dollhouses! I just finished re-habing an old dollhouse for auction at my church. I know the many hours it takes to do this, but yours is just adorable! I loved every minute of my re-hab project. I may have to look for another one to work on 🙂 I love your touch of the copper pots. Dollhouses are wonderful eye candy for “older” girls (like me)!
Yes – young or old, what a great auction item. I might be addicted after this one…
Kim you did such a fantastic job on dollhouse. Jill would be so very pleased and proud. Such a lovely reminder of her and all the good times you shared.
Love to all
Ann
Thank you Ann – I think she would like it so much!!! I miss “her”
I just love this!! My oldest daughter and I just love doll houses and I may just ask her if she would want to work together on rehabbing the one she owns! She’s 50 and I’m 71 and maybe someday she’ll have a little granddaughter or grandson that would play with it knowing how much love was put into it!! Thank you so much for sharing and I can’t wait to see more!!
I think you should make it a date – you two would have so much fun!!!
